About ECAASU

ECAASU's mission is to inspire, educate, and empower those interested in Asian American and Pacific Islander Issues.

We envision a world of Asian American and Pacific Islander student leaders with an understanding of AAPI history and issues as well as the leadership skills to positively impact their communities.

We work to strengthen student networks and build bridges across communities through various programs held over the course of the year. In doing so, we hope to advance equity for marginalized communities, fight prejudice and discrimination, and advocate for equal rights.

About the 2018 Conference

Every year, ECAASU partners with a university on the East Coast to host a conference that provides passionate students and community members with a physical space to come together and discuss political, social, and cultural issues relevant to the Asian American community. Since the Conference's inception, Cornell University has traditionally hosted ECAASU every 10 years: first in 1988, then in 1998, and again in 2008. The 2018 Conference will thus mark the fourth time that ECAASU has returned to Cornell’s campus.

We hope that bringing ECAASU back to Cornell for the 4th time will remind people that the most resilient foundations for social change come from a sense of continuity—not only ensuring our perspectives are informed by the past but making sure our work and ideas are geared towards the future. Once we grasp our place on the continuum, we have no choice but to broaden our perspective, to realize our power to help create the future we want to see, and to take action.

CONTINUUM

Through the theme of Continuum, we will explore our racialization, incarceration, labor, and civil rights movements, settler colonialism, immigration policy, ethnic enclaves, and many more facets of the Asian American story.

PERSPECTIVE

Through the theme of Perspective, we will explore representation, intersectionality, mental health, data disaggregation, transnationalism, cultural authenticity, and other nuances that broaden the Asian American landscape.

POWER

Through the theme of Power, we will explore leadership development, civic engagement, contemporary advocacy efforts, coalition building, racial triangulation, police brutality, liberation struggles, and other key components of the Asian American movement.

Can I get a refund?

We are so sorry that you are unable to attend the Conference this year. Right now, we are unable to accommodate refunds because we have already made non-refundable contracts with food vendors and our venue. However, we are still looking into our budget to see what we can do to help you all out. We understand it must be disappointing for you and we’ve ensured that the closing ceremony will be live-streamed. We will post the link on Facebook tomorrow before the ceremony.
